Courtney Claiborne, a Human Resources Business partner from Drexel University answers some classic questions about interviewing and the process that comes with it.

What do you think is the number-one mistake people make when going into an interview? People lack the preparation. A lot of times when you are going for an interview, it is a really big deal. … People lack the preparation and taking the opportunity seriously that they have been given. … As far as not doing enough research about the organization, they know what they see loosely in the job description but that is it, and it is all they can focus on. … Preparation can also be shown how they arrive early or late to the interview, how they come dressed, or how they come unprepared without a resume. They should have those professional documents.
How would you prepare for those random questions that are asked in an interview? (Someone might ask something like what ride would you ride at Disney World and why?) Those questions are supposed to catch you off guard to see how you respond. I would say to be honest and take that moment to reflect on that question. Don’t just rush and answer it. But understand that this is a curveball question and let yourself be honest and thoughtful in your response as well.
In terms of preparation what kind of little fashion tips or advice do you have for someone who is trying to prepare for an interview?
I would say it is better to take that risk and go dressier than hanging loose on it. Don’t just wear black and white, have pops of colors. Whether it is in your jewelry or in your blouse, or for men, in your tie or your shirt, whatever it may be, have the person shine in some way.
Is there anything you wish you knew or wish you were told in school to do, to prepare for an interview?
Relationship building is important, which I have learned is a huge part in business. Make sure that if you immediately meet someone, you start connecting with him or her. Even if you might not know what the purpose is to connect with them at that exact moment, you never know how that person could help you get to your goals in the future. So making sure that you make connections and you keep the door open for growth in that area.
